Today in Madonna History: November 7, 2014

On November 7 2014, Jennifer Lopez talked about how Madonna inspired her to work hard (this took place during J-Lo’s True Love book press conference):
“I still remember when I was a teenage girl and there was Madonna jogging in Central Park (New York) and I thought “wow! she’s famous, she’s rich, she has a lot of success and she’s a great performer; and she’s over there jogging…but she doesn’t need jogging because she’s perfect…but it’s what you MUST do, you MUST work hard. She’s on of my biggest influences and she inspired me a lot.”
Jay’s Note: I remember flipping through paparazzi magazines in waiting rooms as a kid. I loved to look through them because there was always a good chance that there’d be a candid photo of Madonna – and she was usually jogging with her trainer, Rob Parr.

Today in Madonna History: October 30, 2014

On October 30 2014, Madonna and Guy Oseary attended Keep A Child Alive’s 11th Annual Black Ball at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York.
Madonna appeared in photos with Alicia Keys, Kanye West and a few other handsome men.

Today in Madonna History: June 3, 2014

On June 3 2014, Madonna visited Detroit yesterday in an effort to participate in the rebuilding of the city and to connect with her hometown. During her visit, she spent time at the Detroit Achievement Academy – a public charter primary school, Ponyride – a social impact incubator, the Heidelberg Project, the Downtown Youth Boxing Gym and the Dime Music School.
Here’s what Madonna had to say about the experience:
“Many people doubt that Detroit can come back and think that the challenges are too overwhelming to overcome. But what I witnessed today is the true story of Detroit – a city of innovation, commitment, perseverance, imagination and opportunity. The entrepreneurs, artists, activists, teachers and children I met today left me incredibly inspired. I appreciated every minute of it and look forward to helping make the future of Detroit brighter.”

Today in Madonna History: March 15, 2014
On March 15 2014, Madonna attended a Purim party dressed as Daenerys Targaryen, the Mother of Dragons, a fictional character from the Game of Thrones television series.
Madonna shared some photos of her costume on Instagram.
The cast from Game of Thrones reacted this way:
Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryen):
“Oh my goodness. It’s insane. I thought I was asleep, I thought I was dreaming. It’s a huge moment. And, damn! She looks good.”
Gwendoline Christie (Brienne of Tarth):
“I got really, really excited. Madonna’s always been a favorite of mine. I love her strength and her transformative nature and the idea that she might be dressing up as a brilliant character in the TV show I’m in is pretty exciting.”
Kristian Nairn (Hodor):
“I kind of freaked out, slightly. That’s kind of a sign how big ‘Game of Thrones’ has got. The Queen of Pop is wearing a Daenerys costume. I completely freaked out.”
John Bradley (Samwell Tarly):
“She looks delighted, doesn’t she? Look at that. Things like this are just amazing. It’s when you know that you’re really kind of pressing the right kind of cultural buttons.”
Today in Madonna History: February 11, 2014
On February 11 2014, Madonna personally lead a troupe of select gym-goers through a racy—but not criminally indecent—dancercize routine at the grand opening of Hard Candy Fitness, her new upscale gym in the massive Aura condos at Yonge & Gerrard in downtown Toronto, Canada.
Back in 1990, Toronto cops allegedly threatened to arrest Madge for grabbing her crotch on stage during her Blond Ambition Tour (Madonna refused to capitulate to the “fascist state of Toronto,” and nothing ever came of the threats).
Her attitude toward the city seems to have mellowed since then. While sashaying down the red carpet in fishnets and a black bustier suit from Canadian designers DSquared2, she paused to share her love for the city that snubbed her two decades go. “I think Toronto finally learned to accept me,” she told reporters for the Toronto Star. “I love Toronto.”
