On June 15 1994, Dangerous Game was released on home video. The film was directed by Abel Ferrara, and starred Madonna, Harvey Keitel and James Russo.
In 2007, Ferrara recalled,
It was just another one of our films that never came out. But on that one, the audience didn’t really like the film. Madonna killed it. The first impression people get on a movie is the one that never gets out of their mind. So after Madonna got so trashed for doing Body of Evidence, she thought she was going to beat the critics to the punch and badmouth the film. And she actually got good reviews. She never got a good review from the Voice or The New York Times in her life, but she got good reviews for this movie, which she came out and trashed. I’ll never forgive her for it.
Did you watch this film? Did you like it?
Yet another Madonna movie I haven’t seen!
I give this movie a thumbs-up. And Madonna is excellent in it. Definitely the best performance of her acting career next to “Evita.”
Great film! Another great film is Swept Away. I think critics have poisoned everyone’s mind that she’s a terrible actor, director and singer because they don’t quite understand her. W. E. They said was crap, but I find the love stories very good.
Snake Eyes! This one is a favorite of Madonna movies. It’s actually a good film! Madonna’s acting in this is very credible. And as a HUGEx5 fan of Madonna…I will say that her film career is never very exciting to me. Really hope she opts for a book over this Biopic
I remember seeing it back when it came out on video. Probably 1994 like the blog article states. I liked Madonna in it–or at least some of her scenes–but to me, it wasn’t a fun movie to sit through. I don’t think I ever watched it again. Maybe it’s time to find it and give it a rewatch. I believe some day, probably after Madonna is gone, there will be a critical re-evaluation of her films. This one may come up as a hidden gem in her long career.
