On January 15 1993, Body of Evidence was released across North America. The erotic thriller was produced by Dino De Laurentiis and directed by Uli Edel.  The film starred Madonna and Willem Dafoe, with Joe Mantegna, Anne Archer, Julianne Moore and Jürgen Prochnow in supporting roles.

The theatrical release for the film received the rare NC-17 rating (“No Children Under 17 Admitted”).

Sex was a game to her. She got off on the control. She always used to tell me it had to be her way.

When was the last time you watched Body of Evidence? Thoughts?

  1. I didn’t see the film when it came out, but I did see it a few years later after the hubbub of the Sex book died down. The movie wasn’t as bad as the critics made it out to be or its reputation deserved. I think if it hadn’t gotten swept up in the Sex book/Erotica album/Erotica video backlash, it would have fared better at the theaters. Still, Madonna’s strong suite is comedy, and I wish she’d made more of them.

  2. It’s a sub-par ‘Basic Instinct’ which has aged terribly but I watch it from time to time and enjoy it! I think M is good in it and the Razzie was not deserved! Total backlash due to Sex which, again, was totally undeserved and as M has said was driven by misogynist fear of a woman in control of her sexuality.
