On May 25 1985, Madonna performed The Virgin Tour at Cobo Arena in Detroit, Michigan. The show was filmed by Daniel Kleinman, and released by Warner Music Video and Sire Records on November 13 1985.
Here is the dialog from Madonna’s famous Virgin Tour introduction (filmed by James Foley for the video release, it was not present during the concerts):
“I went to New York. I had a dream. I wanted to be a big star, I didn’t know anybody, I wanted to dance, I wanted to sing, I wanted to do all those things, I wanted to make people happy, I wanted to be famous, I wanted everybody to love me. I wanted to be a star. I worked really hard, and my dream came true.”
Madonna Live: The Virgin Tour was an enormous success. The home video release was the top selling music video cassette of 1986 in the USA, and the video was certified double platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for shipment of 100,000 copies.
Madonna has made a lot of Rock Fans happy for nearly 40 years because her life is a dream come true and I am proud to be her friend and fan!
Got it for Christmas 1985! Wore that VHS out! I wish they would have taped more official content and at least included Borderline/Burning Up and Angel. The only bootleg of the full show I have is from Dallas where I live. I begged my parents to take me, but they said I was too young and would not care in a few months. HA! They did try to make it up to me with WTG tour. Tickets, money for a lot of merch and they recorded the local news channels that night for me. Still have those VHS spots somewhere
Why won’t they release this on BluRay? Who has VHS anymore not me. Dvds have been popular as long as i can remember. I love Madame X as it’s her best album in years. I can’t wait to see it. Hopefully she will make another documentary like TOD and IAGTTYAS and makr it a trilogy. I have really became into her music since American Life
