On February 23 1988, Madonna began rehearsals for David Mamet’s play Speed-the-Plow, in New York City. The play co-starred Joe Mantegna and Ron Silver, and was directed by Gregory Mosher.

On February 21, 2014, it was reported that Nile Rodgers would like to make new music with Madonna.

“I adore Madonna. If she ever wants to work, I am totally down,’ he said, adding that she had helped him kick drugs two decades ago.”

“For a gazillion years I have always said she is the hardest-working person I have ever worked with. She is the most dedicated. The most focused and I absolutely adore her.”

Nile and Madonna previously worked together on her Like A Virgin album.

Today in Madonna History: February 20, 1986

On February 20 1986, Madonna and Sean Penn attended the premiere of his film At Close Range at the Berlin Film Festival in Berlin, Germany.

Madonna contributed Live To Tell to the At Close Range soundtrack. Live To Tell was written by Patrick Leonard and Madonna, and was released as the first single from her True Blue album in March 1986.

On February 19 2014, Madonna went to see the rehearsals of New York City Ballet’s Les Bosquets.

Les Bosquets was choreographed by Madonna’s longtime friend, JR, and featured Lil Buck, who was a dancer on the MDNA World Tour.

On February 15 1984, Madonna’s Borderline single was released. Borderline was the fifth single to be released from her self-titled debut album.  It was written and composed by producer Reggie Lucas, and remixed by Madonna’s then boyfriend John “Jellybean” Benitez.

In the United States, the song became Madonna’s first top ten hit when it reached position ten on the Billboard Hot 100 on June 16, 1984.
