On October 27 1996, Madonna’s You Must Love Me (the lead single from Evita) was released.
Kathleen Guerdo’s review for Billboard:
“Madonna delivers what is by far one of the strongest vocal performances of her career, comfortably scaling to the song’s demanding soprano heights while infusing it with delicate, heart-rending emotion. This bodes well for the creative potency of the rest of the soundtrack, which is due Nov. 14. Prepare for wall-to-wall airplay of this flawless ballad on pop and AC radio.”
There I have said it-You Must Love Me is a beautiful Madonna ballad because I can hear the absolute and unconscionable sadness in her voice!
Agreed.
I am happy and glad you feel that way-You Must Love Me is an extremely sad ballad even by Madonna’s high standards! It doesn’t get much better-or sadder-than that! In fact, both Ray of Light and Music have extremely sad endings-because of the Evita soundtrack!
Hey Rabbit Bunny! I see you on some other M sites and just love your spirit! Never negative. It’s very refreshing in this day and age! I might not LOVE everything Madonna is doing right now, but I will always love her! Be well 🙂
I will too TDM! Thanks!
