On March 16 2001, MTV and VH1 networks announced that Madonna’s new video for What It Feels Like For A Girl would be broadcast only once on March 20 at 11:30 pm because of the controversy over its violent content.
This video became another video single behind Justify My Love, Erotica, and Music!! Her. Videos in the early 00s had lots of violence which I guess was inspired by the Mister at the time.
I actually loved this video and thought it was representing the frustration/anger of women from youth to old age and the way they are treated in society. Of course it was violent. I’m pretty sure a LOT of women could relate to the fantasy of running over dickheads/Smashing cars/dicks and doing shit that only “Men” are allowed to do. I was recording it at home while at a gay bar and they stopped the music and showed the video live. Was a good night.

What It Feels Like for a Girl-beautiful solidarity ballad anthem for Lola, Mercy, Esther, Stelle and Madonna herself!
