On January 9 1988, Spotlight peaked at #15 on Billboard’s Hot Crossover Singles chart in the U.S.
Despite not being released as a single commercially outside Japan and receiving no direct promotion in the U.S., Spotlight managed to garner enough airplay for an eight-week run on the Crossover chart. It also appeared on the Hot 100 Airplay chart for five weeks, peaking at #32 in February, 1988.
I remember hearing “Spotlight” on the radio way back then. It seems like it was played quite a bit and I thought it was released as a single at the time, and I was looking forward to the video. Too bad it was never released. I’m sure it would’ve gone Top 10. Too bad it wasn’t included on the True Blue album. I always preferred it to “Love Makes The World Go Round” and it would’ve been a great song to close out the album.
Spotlight-a brilliant early example of Madonna’s Dreams Come True motto in action!
Another lost top 5 it should have been released as a single. Great cover pic
