On September 1 2009, the final Sticky & Sweet Tour date took place in Tel Aviv, Israel.

Madonna’s triumphant and record shattering Sticky & Sweet Tour will be making its last and final stop September 1st in Tel Aviv, Israel at the Yehoshua Gardens (HaYarkon Park). Tickets will go on sale this Wednesday, June 3rd – complete details below.

“I’m very excited about returning to Israel for my last and final show. I know it will be unforgettable” commented Madonna who last performed in Israel in 1993.

The Sticky & Sweet Tour – a stunning extravaganza gives fans a breathtaking never before seen or heard once-in-a-lifetime experience. One of the top selling touring acts of all time, Madonna’s Sticky & Sweet tour played 58 cities last summer to wild critical acclaim and before over two and a half million adoring fans including sold out performances in Paris (80,000 tickets sold), Zurich (72,000 tickets sold), London (74,000 ticket sold), Vancouver (50,000 tickets sold), South America (650,000 tickets sold) and three sold out Madison Square Garden Shows in New York City.

The film is about three flatmates living desperate lives in London.

On March 26 2009, Madonna’s I Am Because We Are documentary premiered online via YouTube and Hulu. The documentary was directed by Nathan Rissman and narrated by Madonna.

According to the press release:

I Am Because We Are depicts a journey in the second poorest country in the world, Malawi. In a country of 12 million people, so many children without parents has caused irreparable damage. The film attempts to explore what is going on in the heads and hearts of these orphans, and what the future holds for them. Suffering from AIDS, infections and malnutrition, most of the children in Malawi are in need for food, medical care, but also for proper education and guidance. More than just a story about Malawi, I Am Because We Are provides the audience with keys to help changing the situation but also spreads hope for a better world.

On December 11 2009, Madonna’s official website announced that Revolver would be released as the second single from the deluxe edition of her greatest hits collection, Celebration. The digital maxi-single would be released on December 29th, with the CD maxi-single hitting North American stores in late January and a vinyl 12″ following in early February 2010. This would be Madonna’s final single release under her contract with Warner Bros. Records.

On December 3 2009, the 52nd Annual Grammy Award nominations were announced, including Madonna’s Celebration in the Best Dance Recording category.  Other nominees in the category included Britney Spears, The Black Eyed Peas, Lady Gaga and David Guetta.

On September 27 2009, Madonna’s hits compilation, Celebration, debuted at number one on the Official UK Album Chart, bringing her total of number ones (11 total) in line with Elvis Presley. Only The Beatles had more number ones, with a total of fifteen.

This achievement also marked another record for Madonna: the most successful female solo artist of all time.

Other records (at this time in Madonna’s career history):

  • Madonna had spent more than 29 weeks at number one on the Official UK Album Chart (more than any other female solo artist)
  • Madonna had more UK number one singles (13) than any other female solo artist
  • Achieved the chart double (simultaneous number one album and single) more times (4) than any other female solo artist
  • Completed the highest grossing tour in history (Sticky & Sweet) for a female artist
