On August 20 2008, Live Nation released this press release for Madonna’s 2008 Sticky & Sweet World Tour:

Madonna’s Sticky & Sweet Tour Kicks Off This Saturday In Cardiff

Madonna, currently putting the finishing touches to her fabulous new Sticky & Sweet show in Cardiff, is readying herself and the 250 travelling personnel for the opening night this Saturday at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium. Hot on the diamante shaped heels of her phenomenally successful Hard Candy disc, Sticky & Sweet promises two pulsating hours of non-stop hits in a show that features 16 dancers, a 12 piece band, more than 8 costume changes for the lady herself and £l million of Swarovski crystals. The audience is taken on a rock driven dancetastic journey that’s broken into four sections:

Pimp – A mashed up homage to 1920’s deco and modern day gangsta pimp. Madonna makes a grand entrance dressed by Givenchy.

Old School – Madonna tips her hat to her early 80’s downtown New York City dance roots with flashes of Keith Haring and the dance culture vibe of the time including the birth of rap.

Gypsy – A VIP trip to La Isla Bonita infused by the spirit of Romanian folk music and dance. A tour de force.

Rave – Far eastern influences emerge all sparkly and sporty.

Sticky & Sweet kicks off this Saturday August 23rd at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium. The tour hits London’s Wembley Stadium September 11th. The Sticky & Sweet Tour is produced by Live Nation Global Touring.

In total, Madonna performed for 216,000 fans during the three nights at Wembley.

On August 17 2012, Madonna’s Turn Up The Radio single was released in Germany as a digital download.

Brad O’Mancey from Popjustice had this to say about the single:

This is an escapist anthem about leaving wherever you’re stuck, getting in a car, whacking some amazing music on the stereo and putting your foot down. In other words, it’s still only when she’s dancing that she feels this free, and it’s still music making the people come together. It captures a brilliantly teenage sensation (“only music can save me from my shit life”) but makes sense of it in a song that doesn’t sound like she’s trying too hard to be down with the kids… Real life is sometimes a bit more complicated than that, and sometimes freedom is about being able to leave the cunts behind to get on with their useless lives. And that’s what this song is about.

On August 13 1952, one of Madonna’s closest friends, Herb Ritts, was born in Los Angeles, California.

Ritts specialized in black and white photography and music videos, including Madonna’s Cherish music video and the photoshoot for Madonna’s True Blue, Like A Prayer and Immaculate Collection albums (among others — the list just goes on and on).

Throughout the 80’s and 90’s, Herb was at Madonna’s side taking the most beautiful photos of her possible. We thank him from the bottom of our hearts for capturing Madonna during this time in her life and career.
