On November 22 2002, the twentieth James Bond film, Die Another Day, was released by MGM. Die Another Day was the fourth and last film to star Pierce Brosnan as James Bond.
Die Another Day was directed by Lee Tamahori. The film marks the James Bond franchise’s 40th anniversary. The series began in 1962 with Sean Connery.
The title song for Die Another Day was written and produced by Madonna & Mirwais. Madonna also had a cameo in the film as Verity, a fencing instructor.
Tellingly, Die Another Day is one of Madonna’s best Dance bangers and the only hit from American Life.
“Die Another Day” was the end of an era for Madonna, at least on American radio. It was a great song and I remember hearing it played obsessively on the radio. At the time, I thought it might be another “Music.”
I never really think of it as part of the American Life album, not the way “Live to Tell” fit so perfectly on the True Blue album. I’m glad it was included though, even if it does kind of feel like an after thought.
