Today In Madonna History: March 11, 1985
On March 11 1985, Madonna appeared on the cover of People magazine.
“I’m tough, ambitious and I know exactly what I want,” she says. “If that makes me a bitch, okay.”
One associate described her as “a great white shark in goldfish clothing,” and another observes, “If you cross Madonna once, you might as well have never existed as far as she is concerned.”
And woe to the showbiz spider who mistakes her for Little Miss Muffet. “She will suffer fools when it is in her interest,” says a friend, “but never gladly.”

On March 9 1999, Madonna – Ciao Italia: Live From Italy (previously released in 1988 on VHS) was released on DVD.
Ciao Italia contained footage from a previous TV special of the Who’s That Girl World Tour called Madonna in Concerto, broadcast in Europe in 1987, filmed at the Stadio Comunale in Turin, Italy. The video release also contained footage from shows recorded in Florence, Italy and Tokyo, Japan, the latter having previously been released as a Japanese TV special and home video release, Who’s That Girl: Live in Japan.
“A festive Italian stadium show featuring the Material Girl, who’s turned into a first-rate entertainer, strutting and singing in flashy production-number renditions of her recent most Billboard topping songs, is indeed a delight. The video captures the enormity of Madonna as a performer, and her theatrics, oomph and chutzpah.” – Dennis Hunt from Los Angeles Times
Today In Madonna History: March 8, 1994
On March 8 1994, Madonna’s I’ll Remember (Theme From The Motion Picture With Honors) single was released.
I’ll Remember was written by Madonna, Patrick Leonard, and Richard Page.
I’ll Rememeber later appeared on Madonna’s ballads collection, Something to Remember.
Lyrics:
Say good-bye
To not knowing when
The truth in my whole life began
Say good-bye
To not knowing how to cry
You taught me that
And I’ll remember
The strength that you gave me
Now that I’m standing on my own
I’ll remember
The way that you saved me
I’ll remember
Inside
I was a child
That could not mend a broken wing
Outside
I looked for a way
To teach my heart to sing
And I’ll remember
The love that you gave me
Now that I’m standing on my own
I’ll remember
The way that you changed me
I’ll remember
I learned
To let go
Of the illusion that we can possess
I learned
To let go
I travel in stillness
And I’ll remember
Happiness
I’ll remember
(I’ll remember)
(I’ll remember)
And I’ll remember
The love that you gave me
Now that I’m standing on my own
I’ll remember
The way that you changed me
I’ll remember (I’ll remember)
No I’ve never been afraid to cry
Now I finally have a reason why
I’ll remember (I’ll remember)
No I’ve never been afraid to cry
And I finally have a reason why
I’ll remember (I’ll remember)
No I’ve never been afraid to cry
And I finally have a reason why
I’ll remember (I’ll remember)
No I’ve never been afraid to cry
And I finally have a reason why
I’ll remember (I’ll remember)

Today In Madonna History: March 6, 1986
On March 6 1986, Madonna and George Harrison held a press conference at Kensington Roof Gardens, London, England to discuss the filming of Shanghai Surprise.
When asked by a reporter to apologize for her and Sean’s behavior towards the British press, Madonna answered: “I have nothing to apologize for”.
You have to stick it out to the end of the video to hear George Harrison’s Shanghai Surprise. It’s one of those 80’s songs you can’t get out of your head!
Here are some of the lyrics:
But i’m ready.
You must be crazy… crazy…
And you got no money… money…
But you’re a tryer…
My straits are dire from the wok into the fire,
I’d like to meet you but i’ve broken my chopstick.
Sometimes there’s no hope in, in chasing promises,
I wanna love you though it could prove to be unwise,
Shanghai surprise.
